BioProcess, Green Plains to start construction on production facility in US

EBR Staff Writer Published 06 February 2012

BioProcess Algae, Green Plains Renewable Energy (BioProcess) have unveiled plans to start construction of BioProcess Algae's five acre production facility in US state of Iowa.

The facility is to be located at Green Plains ethanol plant.

The project will comprise of a combination of Grower Harvester bioreactors and a plant to further dewater and process the algae into finished product.

The facility's horizontal reactors were operational since their installation last year.

The project commercializes algae focused on markets for animal feed, fuel, omega-3 products and high-value nutraceuticals.

Green Plains President and CEO Todd Becker said that following the rollout of the horizontal reactors at full commercial scale, the company intends to produce meaningful quantities of dried wholesale algae for use in products now.

"This new phase will mark the successful transition to a larger footprint located adjacent to our Shenandoah, Iowa ethanol plant which will provide the basic inputs the bioreactors need: carbon dioxide, warm water and heat," said Becker.

Green Plains is an ethanol producer, marketer and distributor in North America.
